Naming the Hurt

Being part of the Flying Pig Marathon last year brought such energy and fun being the church beyond the walls that we are excited to announce that we are doing it again this year! On Sunday, May 5th we have the unique opportunity to be a cheering church serving at the Party Zone in Hyde Park Square. It’s the largest weekend party in town and we get to be part of it! Not only will we get an opportunity to cheer on the participants as they “fly” down Erie Ave. through the square, our main purpose will be to host our neighbors as they come out to watch by serving water and snacks.

There will be two shifts you can choose from: 6:15a – 8:00a or 8:00a-10:00a. click the link http://hydeparkchurch.org/flying-pig-party-zone/to see all the details about Flying Pig Sunday and follow the link on the page to sign up to serve. Enter “community” on the registration page to unlock the Party Zone sign up for HPCUMC. Enter the required information including t-shirt size for your free t-shirt and online waiver form. You are welcome to serve with your children but don’t need to sign them up.

This year will feature the first ever Flying Pig Choir! Join Director of Music Ministries Ben Owen and Worship Leader Aimee Stockdale from 8:00a-9:00a to sing encouraging songs, both old and new. Just like Christmas Caroling, all you need to do is sign up for the 2nd shift (8:00a-10:00a – info above), show up, and sing! If you’ve ever wanted to sing the theme from Rocky directly after Guide My Feet (While I Run This Race), this is your chance to do it. All people are welcome to sing!

Are you planning on walking or running for the Flying Pig (5K, 10K, Half, Full, or Relay)? Consider walking or running for peace and justice by joining the Ignite Peace Team! The money raised during this fundraiser allows them to do education and advocacy work throughout the year! If you are interested in being part of the IJPC team, use the link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScm8UKhHy6sqpY_aLTJmTp-A1lDUQRifwWUJKOVyfGB9595Cg/viewform and let me know so we can get your fundraising link out to our community.

There will be no in person worship in the church building – a pre-recorded service will be streamed online starting at 9:30a and available any time after that.

I look forward to being the church with you all in this unique way on May 5th!

Peace,

Pastor Kate
