A Lesson from Bart

One of the most powerful stories of healing in the gospel of Mark is found in Chapter 10:  Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, has a powerful encounter with Jesus.  Layers of rules and societal barriers prohibit him from fully being a part of his community.  One of the incredible lessons he teaches us is about pride.

Bartimaeus, who is an outcast, cries out to Jesus for help.  In doing so, he swallows his pride.  Frank Tyger wrote:    “Swallow your pride occasionally; it’s not fattening.”

In preparation for worship this Sunday, I invite you to the question Jesus asked Bartimaeus:  “What do you want me to do for you?”  Reflect honestly upon your current need.  Imagine that Jesus is calling you right now to his feet and asking you this powerful question:

“What do you want me to do for you?”  Speak the words of your answer or write them down.

Friends, we have a God who delights in supplying our needs!  Come and celebrate our providing, loving God this Sunday and join us for worship online at 9:30 or 11:00.  I look forward to connecting with you!

UPDATE ON RESUMING IN-PERSON WORSHIP ON OCTOBER 4:

On Sunday, October 4, we will offer the option of in-person worship at 9:30 and 11:00.  Please explore the safety guidelines that are offered out of love for our community to keep everyone safe.  A church  reservation system will be in place early next week where you can reserve your spot online or by calling the church office.  For those of you who are not yet ready to return, we understand.  We look forward to connecting with you online for worship.

Peace,

Pastor Cathy
