The Ultimate Dragon Slayer

Most of us remember a fairy tale or two that involves a fire-breathing dragon.  For “Games of Thrones” fans how can we forget Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion, those awesome fiery-breathing dragons that fly?!

Many people today are somewhere on a scale of anxiety and fear.  There are so many things that seem to keep us up at night.  I do not need to mention them to you because you already know the fears that keep from you from experiencing abiding peace and joy.

Eleanor Roosevelt once wrote: “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.  You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror.  I can take the next thing that comes along.’”

As we continue our sermon series, “Unstuck,” I invite you to review Romans 8:31-39.  This scripture is a fear-fighting powerhouse which demonstrates how we can live with confidence, face our fears daily, and stand tall in spite of all the chaos swirling around us.  This passage from Romans reminds us that God’s  love for us cannot be bound by time, space, or circumstance.  God has indeed sent a dragon-slayer, in the form of Christ Jesus, to destroy all of our fears.

I look forward to connecting with you this Sunday and celebrating our identity as beloved children of God!

May God fill you with courage, confidence, and great joy.

Peace,

Rev. Dr. Cathy Johns
