The Mystery of Mercy

Which came first?  The chicken or the egg?

I want to say a chicken because a chicken, at least hens, have to be there to lay an egg and then produce a chicken.  But an egg hatches and then becomes a chicken.   Let’s not forget about the rooster’s role! Somehow in the mystery of it all, life results.   Chickens and eggs are both here to stay!

Which came first?  The Cross or God’s Mercy?

A.Z. Tozer’s response is powerful:

“When Jesus died on the cross the mercy of God did not become any greater. It could not become any greater, for it was already infinite. We get the odd notion that God is showing mercy because Jesus died. No–Jesus died because God is showing mercy. It was the mercy of God that gave us Calvary, not Calvary that gave us mercy. If God had not been merciful there would have been no incarnation, no babe in the manger, no man on a cross and no open tomb.”

Mercy flows from the unfathomable depth and height of God’s indescribable love!  God’s mercy has always been here and is here to stay!

In Micah 6:8 we are invited to extend the endless stream of love that comes from the watershed of God’s incredible mercy to all.

I look forward to connecting with you Sunday as we explore what it means to “Love Mercy” from Micah 6:8.

Have a blessed weekend!

Peace,

Pastor Cathy
