Stories That Shape Us

We are continuing the sermon series on parables found in the bible.  Luke Chapter 15 is a powerful section of scripture that focuses on God’s boundless mercy and the joy of redemption, particularly highlighting the restoration of the lost.

It contains three parables – the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son – each illustrating God’s love for those who are lost and the rejoicing that occurs when they repent and return. They are sometimes known as the “trilogy of redemption” of the lost. These parables challenge self-righteousness and emphasize God’s willingness to welcome even the most seemingly lost individuals.

This week is on the parable of the one lost sheep found in Luke chapter 15 verses 1-7. It’s a familiar text.  A shepherd leaves ninety-nine sheep to find one that is lost, demonstrating God’s active search for those separated from the flock. God is the shepherd and we are the sheep in the story.

It challenges us to examine our own hearts and attitudes, urging us to embrace the lost with the same love and forgiveness that God extends to them. It also challenges us as a church family too.

This Sunday I look forward to the privilege of sharing some reflections on the parable. It’s a God story. It’s your story. It’s my story. It’s our story. I invite you to come hear the story anew and hope you will be inspired and go away rejoicing!

Blessings,
