Songs of Christmas

Are you glad all the waiting and anticipation for Christmas is over?  Waiting a whole month for something as big as Christmas Day is difficult.  We wait and wonder if we forgot to buy a gift or if the gift we purchased for someone is one they’ll really like.  We wait for family or friends to arrive.  And sometimes, if honest, we can hardly wait until they all leave.  We have to wait to open presents until everyone has finished with breakfast or dinner.  Waiting at home for Christmas Day to arrive takes a bunch of patience.

Even in the church, the season of Advent, was a time of waiting and anticipation, preparing us for what the true meaning of Christmas is all about. The birth of the Christ-child. We have been going through the infant birth narrative scripture readings and celebrating the story being told through amazing music.

We’ve heard Hannah’s Song, Zechariah & Elizabeth’s Song, Mary & Joseph’s Song, and The Angel’s Song.  The sermon series comes to an end with a post-Advent sermon about Simeon & Anna and their song, known as the “Nunc Dimittis.”  Come and hear the story of two older people standing in the Temple who have been waiting with anticipation for a very long time for the Messiah to arrive. I hope you will be inspired by their faithfulness as you hear the final Advent song of the season sung during worship.
