Messiah Revealed: Authority

“When pigs fly,” was one of my grandma’s infamous answers to some of my off the wall requests and impossible questions. If I only knew then that pigs really DO fly in Cincinnati on Flying Pig Marathon weekend! I remember talking with Dana Calhoun within my first year here about how cool it would be for us to go beyond our church walls on Sunday morning of Flying Pig to serve as a presence and support to the community and all the flying pigs. Crazy idea, right?

Well, I’m thrilled to announce that the crazy idea will become a reality this year! On May 7th we have the unique opportunity to be a cheering church serving at the Party Zone in Hyde Park Square on Sunday morning. It’s the largest weekend party in town and we get to be part of it! Not only will we get an opportunity to cheer on the participants as they “fly” down Erie Ave. through the square, our main purpose will be to host our neighbors as they come out to watch by serving water and snacks. There is also talk of forming groups to help brighten spirits and keep up the energy by singing among other creative ideas to engage our community. From cheering people on to hosting the Party Zone – there will be a spot for everyone! We are needed from 6:45am – 11:00am and will offer different shifts to sign up. Mark your calendar now and sign-ups to volunteer will be coming in a few weeks.

Are you planning on walking or running for the Flying Pig? Consider walking or running for peace and justice by joining the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center (IJPC) Team! The money raised during this fundraiser allows our justice partner to do education and advocacy work throughout the year! If you are interested in being part of the IJPC team, please let me know so I can help get you signed up and get your fundraising link out to our community.

I look forward to being with you all in a new way on May 7th!

Peace,

Pastor Kate
