Called, Gathered, Sent

This week, we conclude our sermon series, Because of Jesus, I Am…, with the final declaration: I Am Sent. After an incredible week of Vacation Bible School (VBS), I can’t think of a better example of what that looks like.

For months, leaders and volunteers have been dreaming, planning, and transforming our church for Kingdom Quest VBS. This week, more than 100 adults and youth welcomed over 350 children, sharing Bible stories, singing songs, and creating spaces where children could experience the love of Jesus in fun and meaningful ways.

In the Scripture this week, we encounter a church that was on the move. People empowered and emboldened by the Holy Spirit gathered to learn and care for one another as a new faith community. They were also called by Jesus to embody the Good News of Jesus wherever they were sent.

We read in the Book of Acts how the apostles shared God’s love and grace through both their words and their actions, which can serve as an encouragement for us to do the same. The faith of these early followers of Jesus shaped how they lived and how they shared life with others.

I hope you caught a glimpse of that good work this week or in the weeks leading up to VBS, as our church was transformed. Kingdom Quest VBS was more than a program. It was a community of people sharing their gifts of creativity, generosity, hospitality, faithfulness (and perhaps patience) to show children and their families they are loved by God and this church. To every volunteer and staff member who made this week possible: thank you.

As the decorations come down and another VBS becomes a cherished memory, the invitation remains. Because of Jesus, we are sent to share hope, compassion, and God’s love wherever life takes us.

May God’s good work continue in us and through us.

Pastor Kate
