This week we start a new sermon series, Following Jesus. One of the ways we are invited to follow Jesus is by showing our love to God and others through service. Through serving, God gives us a front row seat to seeing God change people’s lives, especially our own! Each of us has been uniquely gifted by the Spirit and are incredibly valuable to God and the Church.
Personally, I have found how serving draws people into authentic community. If you have ever been on a mission trip or experienced a memorable day of serving, you already know that you have made a connection with people for life! When you see each other, you might find it difficult to not bring up a meaningful moment or a funny memory from your time serving together. That’s why I’m so excited to restart Super Serve Saturday this fall and that we have two visits planned in 2022 to visit our global partners in Cluj, Romania (early March) and Samara, Russia (June). These opportunities are tangible ways to follow Jesus and deepen our faith! If you are interested in being part of the global serve teams or getting more involved in serving locally, I would welcome a conversation with you.
In the sermon, we will explore how “come and see” is a powerful invitation to follow Jesus. As people of faith, we are encouraged to extend the invitation for people in our lives to come and see Jesus for themselves. Perhaps inviting someone to worship or a bible study might seem like too big of a step? I would encourage you to invite a friend to an upcoming Super Serve Saturday (S3) this fall starting on September 18th. S3 happens on the 3rd Saturday of each month and is a great opportunity to invite someone to come, see, and serve in the community! I think you will find serving alongside a friend lends itself to asking questions and meaningful conversations about faith.
To learn more about S3, the descriptions for this month’s projects and to sign up to serve, please click the Super Serve Saturday’s rotating banner on the homepage of the church’s website (hydeparkchurch.org). I hope to get the chance to serve alongside you sometime this fall as continue to follow Jesus together.
Peace,
Pastor Kate
