As people of faith and as witnesses of God’s love in the world, we are to be people who show mercy, compassion and generosity towards others. Here at HPCUMC we do this in a variety of ways. Think of our missional outreach locally and globally where we serve and help meet the needs of others as an act of love. These are opportunities to show care and compassion to persons we may not know or ever see again.
This Sunday in worship we will be looking at one of Jesus’s parables found in the Gospel of Luke. A parable is a fictional yet realistic story that illustrates a truth. (There are over thirty parables of Jesus recorded in the Synoptic Gospels alone.) Jesus teaches us about how to live a life of faith and how we are to treat others.
The parable this week is one of the best known called the Good Samaritan story. I’m hoping you will find some new or deeper meaning in such a familiar text. I invite you to be open to hearing it anew by placing yourself into the story. Think about how the parable may inspire or challenge you to think differently about “who is my neighbor.” How will you respond?
I look forward to the privilege and opportunity to be with you in worship this Sunday.
Blessings, in Christ,
Pastor Dave
