More than once in my lifetime I have found myself trying to walk through snow without good snow boots. This is usually because my day did not begin with an agenda item with the title “Hike in Deep Snow.” The snow was a “surprise” in my day!
One day I was trying to walk in the snow with Doug in Colorado. It was spring. There was no snow at the beginning of the trail, but as we walked up the path, the snow began to appear. It seemed to get deeper and deeper as we walked. Doug, of course, wore his trusty, winter boots. I, unfortunately, did not have boots, only shoes.
The only solution that made sense was to follow in his footsteps. I had to be intentional about it, but it was not hard. I simply had to look where he had placed his trusty boot in the deep snow and put my foot there. It required me to follow, trusting in the person who walked ahead of me.
As we continue to enter this new year, I invite you to think about who you trust, where you step, and who you are following. On social media we can choose to “follow” others. As we enter 2022, Jesus speaks the ancient words to us that were extended to the first disciples:
“Follow Me.”
What would walking deeply in the footsteps of Christ look like for each one of us in 2022?
May God richly bless you as you walk further into this new year. May God help us all to “look to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)
I look forward to connecting with you on Sunday as we continue the sermon series “Deeper Living,” based on the letter of I John.
In His Joy,
Pastor Cathy
