King Me!

There is a glorious moment when a checkers player has jumped and moved a piece all the way to the far side of the board.  When that happens, the player commands: “King me!”  A second checker is then placed on top of the single checker.  From that moment, the “new king” has new power; they can move all over the board.

When we try to live our lives as “king” or “queen” at the center of our little kingdoms, we never find our rightful place in God’s kingdom and the peace that is ours as daughters and sons of the King.  Power, control, and ugly selfishness reign in our hearts when we insist on being king of our lives.  Joy and peace are absent.

This Sunday is Christ the King Sunday. It is the last Sunday of the liturgical year and is a celebration of the coming reign of Jesus Christ and the completion of creation.   Sunday’s sermon, “The Strength to Stand: When the Well Runs Dry,” is based on Habakkuk 3:17-19.  The scripture invites us to praise God regardless of our circumstances.  When we embrace Christ as King joy and peace fill us.

How can we do that?  We have been living in very difficult times.  We can praise God always, not because of how good or bad things are at the moment, but because God’s steadfast love endures forever.   God’s love and care for us is not bound by time or space and is not dependent on circumstances.  Christ, our loving King, promises to be with us always, and to love and care for us forever.

All pews will be available in the sanctuary as well as social safe distanced seating in the Welcome Center.  Please observe social safe distancing in worship; additionally we strongly recommend the wearing masks for all persons.

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday:

8:00 a.m.  The Wesley Choir leads worship.  Holy Communion will be celebrated.

At 9:30 a.m. The Mozart Coronation Mass, with choir and orchestra, will be presented as we gather to praise Christ our King

At 11:00 a.m. The Worship @ 11 praise band will lead us in worship as we celebrate Jesus, the King of Kings.

Peace,

Pastor Cathy
