A few weeks ago I began reading the best-selling book by Brene’ Brown titled: “Imperfect: The Gifts of Imperfection.” Besides being a fine author, she is a social science research professor at the University of Houston, a Ted talk podcast presenter, and a truth teller on worthiness.
We are in week two of our sermon series titled; “Spiritual Gifts & Wholehearted Living.” This week’s topic is about understanding none of us are perfect and how perfectionism can have a hold on us. I’ll share some of my learnings from the book on why Brown believes it’s important to cultivate self-compassion in our struggles to be perfect.
We will be looking at a section of the Sermon on the Mount found in the gospel of Matthew chapter 7: 7-12. It is the familiar text known as the “Golden Rule.” We will examine this and hopefully gain a deeper understanding of how compassion plays an important role for us in letting go of perfectionism; and knowing God loves us wholeheartedly, regardless of our imperfections. How’s that for Good News!
I look forward to being with you in worship on Sunday!
Blessings, in the name of Christ,
Pastor Dave
