Through the generosity of Shirley Kyle Marts in memory of her parents, Cassie and Elmer Kyle, the Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church is proud to offer a scholarship to students who meet the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrates financial need.
  2. Has been a member (or one parent has been a member) of HPCUMC for a minimum of 4 years and has been active in the church.
  3. Shows academic promise with a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, and has been admitted to any non-proprietary College or University in the USA.
  4. Will be a full-time student, defined as at least twelve hours per semester.

Shirley Marts was a very bright high school student whose teachers spoke to her parents with the opinion that she should go on to college. But her parents were unable to pay for college. Shirley matriculated at the University of Cincinnati through the assistance of others and went on to have a very successful career with the Procter & Gamble Company.

As a result of having been blessed with the opportunity to get a college degree, Shirley chose to be a blessing to others by virtue of setting up a scholarship fund with her entire estate. The Scholarship Fund is meant to benefit others in the same way as Shirley was benefited and is intended to have a very favorable impact on many individuals’ lives for a very long time.

The confidential application includes three parts. The first is personal information, the second requires a written paper addressing our questions, and the third part is the first page of the FAFSA form (The Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This will provide the committee with additional information on your application. All three sections must be completed by March 20, and submitted to:

Scholarship Program
Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church
1345 Grace Avenue
Cincinnati, Ohio 45208

If a scholarship is awarded it may be renewable for up to eight semesters, provided recipients meet the original financial need criteria and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. This renewal is also dependent on the funds being available.
